The boys were signed up to participate in the pageant at church on Christmas Eve. This year instead of having all the boys be shepherds and all the girls be angels, it was by age. Casey's group was shepherds and Sam's group was angels, and up until the last rehearsal all was well. But then Sam opted out. He wasn't too specific about why he didn't want to do it but he really didn't want to. So we let him off the hook, with the awareness that there will be plenty of opportunities for our boys to be unhappy about church, no need to force him into the pageant.
Casey had the opening line of the whole show, "Hear ye, hear ye, everywhere! What Caesar Augustus has declared!" He then marched out with his soldier shield and a few moments later, morphed into a shepherd where he came to see the new baby and sang Go Tell it on the Mountain. He loved being in the show and did a great job.
Turned out to be a good thing that Sam was not int he show because by the time we were watching the show, he was clearly getting sick. Between the pageant and the 8 pm service, he was tired and clingy and then proceeded to sleep through the last service.
Sam was asleep within about 8 minutes of pulling into the driveway, leaving Jeff and Casey to go out for our traditional pancakes by themselves. They had a great time and Sam clearly had a good sleep because by morning, he was ready to rock!
