Today we had lunch at the home of an older couple from church. Really nice people who are very kind to the boys - always getting out baskets of toys they can check out. Today Frank set up a little picninc table on the back deck where the boys could eat their lunch and still be near the swing set. We sat just inside the door. After we said grace at our adult table I glanced outside and saw Sam and Casey holding hands saying a prayer before they ate.
We have not been entirely consistent about meal time prayers at our house - gasp. However, Sam has recently started wanting to say a prayer, even if we are half way through dinner already. "Pair, pair" he will say reaching for my hand. We all stop what we are doing and hold hands - Casey has to stand on his seat to reach Sam's hand. They always choose the "Lightning McQueen" prayer (named for its speed) and Casey leads us, saying "Thank you Jesus, Amen." It's simple but sort of covers it, and both boys can say it.
And today they said it together, just the two of them, they didn't even know we were watching.
