Casey is feeling better now, although we have not strayed from the very bland diet. We're a little nervous :) By Valentines Day we will move away from only bananas, applesauce, peanut butter toast, graham crackers and water. He really likes all these things of course, but he may eventually want a little variety. Just a few days of him being not quite himself makes us aware of how fortunate we have been so far with Casey's health! This was his first taste of applesauce actually - he has always liked the actual apple so we never tried it. The first time I put it in front of him he was sceptical, but eventually put the spoon in it and then into his mouth ... big smile and (no joke) "It good". Aw. Now when the applesauce comes out of the fridge he runs for his chair and cannot wait to get started. This will eventually die down and that will be our cue to let him eat other food again, or maybe Valentines Day :)
Casey's vocabulary is expanding quickly and it is just a riot. He has more animal sounds now than demonstrated in the earlier video - elephant (sort of high pitched ah sound with the arm movement), donkey (a lovely little two tone hee-haw inspired by the nativity sets) and snake (the classic ssss). And he is recognizing the animals in new places, not just in the original book he learned them from. It's just darling. He is also starting to say the parts of the face instead of just pointing to them - nose, hair, eye and eee for ear.
But my favorite thing these days is his generalizations; all numbers are "2", all letters are "c", all colors are "blue", and all parents are "mama" (although tonight we heard a clear daddy). He is on the right track! He understands so much of what we say, for better or worse, and yesterday as we left for an errand he turned to Obie and said "bye bye puppy". He is a hoot - we don't where he came from but we aren't giving him back.
One year ago ...how the time flies by (most of the time)
