Family Camp 2014

"It our most favoritist thing we do all year" Sam told everyone at church the day we were leaving for Family Camp.  So despite the ridiculous list of things we bring with us and the looming exhaustion from bad camp mattresses, we set out for our 7th year at Clergy Family Camp up north.  The added bonus this year was getting there in a loaner car while our traveling car is in the shop.  Extra packing adventures!
We made it though - we had a wonderful time as we always do.  Each year the boys are a little more independent and can handle a little more freedom at camp.  Its so great to watch them and all their little PK friends have adventures, play in the lake and just be so happy to be together.
This year we had a few extra adventures - Sam lost two teeth!  The first one came out on Tuesday.  Sam checked with the camp director to see if the Tooth Fairy would find him - David said he would send her a message but that she had made it there before.  Sam repeated our cabin  name to him twice.  The tooth fairy did make the trip and left behind the 2 singles she happened to have in her wallet. Ahem.  On Wednesday morning, a well meaning friend who is unaware of Sam's interest in money, shared with Sam that 2 teeth in two days gets a $10 bonus from the Tooth Fairy.  "Oh does it?" I said.  A day of working and wiggling later, we had our second tooth in two days and we informed out well meaning friend that she now owed us $10.  Miraculously, the Tooth Fairy did indeed deliver the bonus.  Sam was SHOCKED!  It was quite funny!
On Thursday, Casey selected to go with the older group of kids on a hike to Spirit Mountain.  Its a trail through the woods and he was excited to go.  At lunch time, lots of the kids were back from the hike, but no Casey.  We figured he was with a second group and sat down for our lunch.  Well turned out Casey was in a group of kids that had gotten ahead of the larger group, but then had somehow turned themselves around.  When the adult leader got back she assumed they were already there ahead of her, but they were not.  Panic ensued for some parents as we realized there were about 7 kids out there without an adult.  Casey was on the younger end of the group.  I don't know the camp and woods well enough to understand everything everyone was saying but there was a certain degree of anxiety and it was rising.  A few parents and the first adult ran back out, and it felt like a long time, but after about 30 minutes the kids came wondering back, very hungry for lunch.  Then the fun started of trying to find the adults who were out looking. (No cell service there!)  Anyway, the kids said they were aware they were lost but none of them seemed too worried.  They just kept following the trail.  Casey feels it was a fun adventure.
