Celebrating Obie

Let's take a moment here at the Preacher's Kid and recognize our actual first born, the only one who was our kid before there was a blog. Our terrier mutt Obie. Obie joined our family in May 2004, adopted from the Humane Society. He had been in foster care with our friend Amber while he recovered from a neck surgery so we had the benefit of getting to know him a bit first. He was not at all what we planned to get but he stole our hearts anyway. And man did we luck out. He has a bladder of steel, tolerates the boys tugs and hugs, stays near us even if the gate is open, and loves to cuddle. When we adopted him, they told us he was probably 3, so since then, somewhere in the 20's of May we declare Obie to be another year older. This year, I talked with Casey and Sam about Obie turning 9 and they got excited about having a party for him. It was really sweet actually - they picked out balloons, treats, a new toy and a card. Casey was pretty set on the idea that Obie's friends should all be invited over for the party. I sort of let that go, but when the moment came to sing and give Obie his card, Casey wanted to wait because "his friends have not arrived yet" Anyway, it was a nice little celebration of our favorite dog. Happy Birthday Obie!
