Converstaion Skills, Imagination and Nick Jr

Casey's conversation skills continue to develop along with his imagination as well as his ability to remember plot lines from Nick Jr shows. This combination leads to some very interesting moments. For example, Jeff and Casey just called me as he was getting ready to go to bed to ask me if I could help him search for the Brontosaurus. He is getting the hang of talking on the phone which is really fun. The question comes from the "oomie zoomie" show we watched today during quiet time. But he is in fact looking around our house for the dinosaurs. Sometimes he mixes plot lines from 2 different shows. Like when we have to go over the bridge, through the jungle and into the castle (Dora the Explorer) but when we get there, we say "We're here to share your house!" (Olivia - a very cute moment when she imagines if adults had to share). We have gone on some awesome camping trips in our basement which are interspersed with songs from the Fresh Beat band and some bug from Backyardigans. It's starting to sound like Casey watches a lot of TV - he really doesn't. We don't have a set routine for the times of day he watches so we get whatever is on. I thought supervising what your child watches on TV was about safety - turns out its about being able to understand what the heck your kid is doing when they are taking your kitchen utensils and running through the house yelling all kinds of things you cannot quite understand until they finally collapse at your feet saying, "Whew! That was close!"
