Pinewood Derby

This year, we had our first Pinewood Derby experience.  Casey received a kit and all we had to do was open the box to know we were out of our league.  One of the great things about being part of a church is that we know a lot of people and what they are good at.  One phone call to our friend Woody from church and we were in business.  We asked Woody if her would be Casey's helper for this project and he was happy to do so.  Thank God.  He came over on a Saturday morning and they started drawing pictures of what the car would look like.  He left Casey with the assignment to keep drawing and to bring him the one he decided was his favorite.  Casey eventually decided on a very sports car looking idea and we took it to Woody.  Woody took the drawing and the block of wood home to make the big cuts.  A few days later he told us to come by church so he could give Casey his car back.  

We were blown away at hoe much it looked like Casey's drawing!

 Next came the sanding....

 After much discernment Casey decided the car was big enough to hold the colors of both his favorite teams - the Detroit Tigers and the Green Bay Packers

 Once the paint was dry, Woody came to add the weights and the wheels

 Sam wanted to watch the drilling part but thought it was too loud

 The finished product!  We even had a lego Justin Verlander head as our driver :)

 Time for the Derby!

Casey took second place in his group, and enjoyed a chance to start a race on the microphone.  Woody was there too, clearly making mental notes for next year.
