My sister Cailin, her husband Nicolai and their daughter Amalia are moving to England. Nicolai has already moved over to start a new job and get settled in. Cailin and Amalia leave at the end of October. So, they wanted to come for a visit before they left. We were scheduled to go camping this weekend with some folks from church and it was going to work out just right because Amalia had never been camping and they are going to move right before Halloween and this campground does a Halloween theme all weekend where the kids get to trick-or-treat Saturday night.
But Mother Nature didn't really cooperate with our plans. Friday night was cold, windy and rainy and sleeping in a tent with these 3 kiddos was seeming less and less like a good idea. Cailin and I took the kids to the campsite anyway - its only 45 minutes away. We hung out in other people's campers and ate pizza. Our pal Jim was kind enough to build a fire just big enough for our crew to make s'mores in the wind and rain. On the way home, Amalia said "I had a great time camping!" We win!
Saturday, after sleeping in our nice warm beds, we headed back there around dinner time. Still windy but no rain. We had some dinner and got the kiddos into their costumes and went trick-or-treating. They had a great time.
It wasn't exactly the weekend we had planned but it was great to spend time with them before they begin their new adventure. We wish them well. Strange not knowing when we will see them next... but we hope its soon!!
