A Sort of Pilgrimage

We have heard the hype and also needed an outing at the end of a Friday spent at home, so we ventured out to IKEA. This Swedish furniture store is pretty amazing - it's huge, it's like a maze where you have to follow the arrows to not get lost and they make a mean meatball dinner. We had a good time! With baby 2 on the way we are starting to strategize about where and in what everyone is going to sleep. The baby will likely sleep in our room until 6 months as Casey did, but then things get dicey. Casey will be ready to be out of the crib and the baby will be ready to be in it, but what does Casey move to and in what room? Needless to say with 2 boys two years apart, there are bunk beds in our future. So, at IKEA we found a cool raised bed that can be bunk style by putting a mattress on the floor beneath it or can just be a raised bed with a fun "play den" below it. We liked the possibilities. Casey can sleep on the ground floor of it until he is ready to move up and baby 2 can move in below, and we are even considering getting two so that once baby 2 is ready to be up top as well, they could both be up and have their own play space below. This store makes you feel like the options are endless. The crib we have converts to an adult size bed, so eventually when Casey is a teenager too cool for his brother he can have his own furniture back. He is also taking the furniture to his first apartment :) If you have two kids or more, tell us what you are doing for sleeping arrangments!
And a note about the family friendly IKEA - this place has a play area which we think was also child care if you wanted to shop sans the youth, family bathrooms for changing and nursing, and bottle warmers in the restaurant area right by the kid sized tables and wall mounted games. Perhaps in direct correlation to this we noticed a large percentage of the women in the store were pregnant, myslef included of course. It would be a great place to register.
Anyway, it was a first trip to see what's out there and we had a good time, even if we were lost most of the time.

ikea also has the most beautiful wooden toys for children (and $1 cinnamon buns for me).

We bought Sawyer one of those convertible cribs that becomes a toddler bed and then a big bed so we decided to get Arden her own crib and let Sawyer keep using his until we convert it. We thought about buying the same exact crib so that the two beds would match if we bunked them together at some point, but we ended up finding a great deal on a used nursery set and so got that instead.
